The Legendary Starfy
SCORE: 88
Starfy is a bold hero of countless adventures, who just happens to be a starfish. The Legendary Starfy is a water based Nintendo DS video game. Nintendo gives this character their normal treatment. A bunny falls through the roof and the prince (Starfy) decides he needs to save him from his pursuers. As a crystal shard is recovered the little bunny (also a prince) starts to retain his memory. Families can also expect an interesting type of humor in The Legendary Starfy. Both screens of the Nintendo DS are used beautifully in this hand held video game.
The Legendary Starfy has an exciting and generally safe look to it. Most levels are alive with color. Starfy is a very happy character that children will identify with. In fact as an adult I appreciate this little guy. Bad characters are attacked through a spin move, or objects like rocks rolling them out of the way. After they are hit they go flying off the screen. The story is told via a comic book style of pictures that are presented in a very artistic style. There is a mermaid character that did not bother me graphically.
I recognized some of the audio bytes in The Legendary Starfy from other Nintendo franchises. Or they sounded very similar to me. Either way this is not a problem because the sounds fit the theme perfectly. The under the sea kind of music also fits the theme. Certain aspects of the humor children will not understand (like painting the town red), but they are not in the realm of being offensive either.
The Legendary Starfy has so many hidden areas, levels, and unlockable content that it would take pages to list it all. I am amazed at how much content Nintendo can stuff into a Nintendo DS cartridge. There are more extras in The Legendary Starfy than in some Wii games. If that were not enough there are multicard, and single card download play so family members can The Legendary Starfy together.
I had a lot of fun playing The Legendary Starfy. The one complaint I have is there are only two saves. That means only two family members at a time can play The Legendary Starfy. Te controls are good, but Starfy is really slow out of the water. This can take some family members a little bit to get used to.
I really enjoyed this game, and hope Nintendo releases more games in
the United States based on Starfy. I enjoyed the whole ocean theme, and
the various characters. I will be recommending The Legendary Starfy to
friends, family members, and my pastor. I love the main characters
servant heart and wanting to help.
