The Hardy Boys Treasure on the Tracks

Mystery Games have become all the rage lately, especially on the Nintendo DS. So what can a developer do to distinguish themselves in a crowded field? Having The Hardy Boys headline caught my eye. I read their mystery novels as a kid, and always wanted to solve some mysteries myself. The Hardy Boys Treasure on the Tracks is the next best thing, and much safer. The line between novel, and video game gets blurred by Her Interactive. I am still smiling that they partnered with Sega.

The Hardy Boys Treasure on the Tracks has a very artistic look and feel to it. There are a lot of wonderfully drawn sections, areas, and pieces of artwork. There is not a lot of animation in this game, but many story elements are told in what looks like a comic book layout (at least to me). There is an air of danger in parts of this Nintendo DS game.

The music is masterfully done in The Hardy Boys Treasure on the Tracks. Figuring out the motives of the various characters is part of the fun of this hand held video game. Bear in mind, there will be characters who are arrogant, less than truthful, etc. Just like real life. In fact the personalities put in the characters of this game is very realistic.

The Hardy Boys Treasure on the Tracks has a lengthy mystery that will keep most gamers engaged for a few weeks. The mini game puzzles can be replayed, and pictures can be painted.  Only one player can play The Hardy Boys Treasure on the Tracks at a time, although multiple saves are possible. If you like mysteries then you will find your money well spent on The Hardy Boys Treasure on the Tracks.

The touch screen controls are the main way to control The Hardy Boys Treasure on the Tracks. There are quite a few areas that allow for button controls as well. It took me a few tries to figure out how to back out of a screen in this game. I also ran into some issues with having to touch certain items multiple times to get them to activate. This was a minor irritation in my book.  I also had to use trial and error on a few of the puzzles, because the instructions were not making sense to me. I found a lot of fun in The Hardy Boys Treasure on the Tracks on the DS.

I love how Frank and Joe Hardy are trying to get to the truth. The brothers are very different, as one is distracted easily by the opposite sex. They are also not always respectful of others. I would like to see a sequel to this game, and liked the whole experience  The Hardy Boys Treasure on the Tracks brings to the table.
