Tecmo Bowl Kickoff

The return to traditional values has become a HUGE movement. Tecmo Bowl Kickoff has returned to its traditional game play, and look. It may be a stretch to put Tecmo Bowl Kickoff into the return to traditional values movement, but I did it. The little characters are offset quite well by nice little cut scenes of huge looking football players. The NFL license is not a part of this game, so the team names and mascots are different. The names are part of the customization so you can have them named anything you choose. Strap on your helmet, get on the field, and get ready for some classic football action.

Tecmo Bowl Kickoff has the great classic look that made this franchise such a classic. Tackling looks like two player pushing up against each other and piles make certain players vanish. The cut scenes look great, and you can customize how often they appear. The half time show is the one problem with this Nintendo DS game. The cheerleaders do not animate a lot, but they are dressed in a provokative manner.

Tecmo Bowl Kickoff has some great music that I enjoy. My favorite is when I score a touchdown - which turned out to be quite often (in case you were wondering). Players can get injured, and come back from the hospital. I love the option to change the cities, and nicknames for every single team. Want the Memphis Maniax’s, then you can easily make them. This is a great segway to the next review section.

Tecmo included a ton of customization in Tecmo Bowl Kickoff for the DS. There are options upon options that can be tweaked to make this game your own personal football game. Wi-Fi and wireless play are also available. Two players who have the game can play one another as well.

The controls in Tecmo Bowl Kickoff work perfectly. The flow of the game is another story. There is not a lot of customization in the passing game. I had trouble figuring out who I would throw to. Forget about doing things like audibles. At least if there are any I could never figure them out, and I found nothing in the instructions. Fumbling, and pass interceptions can happen ten times in a game, or never. They are spotty at best, and I never did understand why sometimes my ball carrier was tackled, and others he would cough up the ball.

Tecmo Bowl Kickoff is better than the Madden NFL games on the DS in many regards. This Nintendo DS game could be a dominate player if the turnovers were more consistent, and there are some better options in the passing game. Tecmo Bowl Kickoff teaches teamwork, strategy, and good sportsmanship. I am not big on the cheerleaders and would have like that left out.
