Stargate Atlantis Season Three
SCORE: 62
For me the Stargate Atlantis series started to wane in season three. They kill off one of the best characters the show has, and leave a huge gaping hole. The cliff hanger left at the end of the season is interesting, but leaves so many different ways out of it that it does not seem as good as previous seasons. Stargate Atlantis Season Three also shows it is getting long in the tooth way faster than SG-1 ever did.
The humor is not there, but the violence was amped up. In a lot of ways I see this series as trying to go the path of a horror flick instead of a sci-fi television show. Constant interaction with earth is now a reality, which leaves for a few interesting guest stars (i.e. Col Jack O’Neal). The language feels worse to me in this season, and the death and destruction is over the top.
MGM included plenty of extras on these DVD’s, however some of them contain content that many families will consider offensive. The mythical science contained in Stargate Atlantis Season Three is stronger than ever before, and is also bothersome to reviewers like myself. They rush forward in their beliefs of science proving everything, ascended beings, and evolution. In the real world we deal with real problems that their beliefs do not help with. Nor do any of those beliefs assist in a relationship with God. So there are some issues families will have problems with.
The lines between good versus evil become blurred in this season as
the Atlantis team perform certain “experiments” that few doctors of
conscious would ever perform. Of course since they do not have ethics to
keep them in check, and they blindly follow their belief system they are
allowed to act like Nazi scientists morally.
