Squeeballs Party

Squeeballs Party is exuding humor. This Wii game is based on these little ball like characters as they participate in a party game. These little guys will sit on top of bowling pins while the player(s) try to knock them down. Be aware they will laugh if you miss them. Some of the 150 mini games include cooking. Certain cooking mini games have the player serving up one Squeeball to another one. The WMG can see the plush toys (editor: based on the characters) selling well at retailers.

Squeeballs Party has a very bright, and colorful look to it. The little balls animate in a very humorous manner. The cartoon violence is at the level of Looney Tunes. One example would be one squeeball sees a button and presses it. Another squeeball is in a glass container with electrodes. The second squeeball gets electrocuted.  He is turned to ash, except for his eyes which fall down. The WMG found a lot of the antics in this game to be funny, and was not offended.

The music in Squeeballs Party is absolutely fantastic. That theme song is still stuck in the WMG’s head. It is a catchy little tune that fits the light hearted nature of this Wii game. Directions are not only written, but there are also visual cues. The only down side the WMG can see in the audio department is the little balls will laugh at the player when you do poorly. This may bother some people, however it encouraged the WMG to do better next time.

Some of the 150 mini games are similar to others. Certain ones take things like bowling, and golf in interesting new directions. There is a fair amount of content to unlock, with things like character bios. The WMG feels Squeeballs Party is worth the money if you are looking for a fun party game. Up to four players can play this game at once - sharing a Wii Remote is required.

Controls will make or break a game. The overall majority of the controls in Squeeballs Party are excellent. There are a few like the Crazy Lanes can take some time to figure out. Squeeballs Party does explain how to play each mini game. Even with that, the WMG found that some players had problems figuring them out. There is a lot of fun to be had in Squeeballs Party.

Following directions, hand-eye coordination, and losing gracefully are lessons the WMG learned from Squeeballs Party. The mild cartoon violence will bother some, as there is an explosive squeeball. The WMG would like to see sequels to this franchise. An Xbox 360 version is coming in the year of our Lord 2010.  There is also a DS version.
