Smallville Season One

For years I wanted any Christian organization to review the Smallville television show. When God opened the door to review DVDs (and Blu-rays) I realized that we could start reviewing the Smallville television show. Season One introduces the various characters and starts Clark Kent out with a few powers, and he gains some in this season as well.

Lana Lang, and Lex Luther are both present, as well as Pete Ross, his parents, and Chloe Sullivan. Lex Luther’s father Lionel is a nice touch. There are some disgusting, and gory images in Smallville Season One. Characters gain special powers from meteor rocks (the show denotes Clark is from a spaceship, but does not reveal more than that in this season).

Meteor rock exposure, or having these powers turns almost every human into a bad guy. Clark works on stopping them, and saving his friends. Too often his friends are the fixation of these bad guys. Clark even saves Lex Luther, and that winds up sparking a friendship. Comic book fans will find a lot of clever dialogue relating to the characters. There is also some bad language on these DVDs that I found very shocking. That problem is also evident on some of the extra content as well.

Which takes away from some really cool special features. I always enjoy getting to see the deleted scenes, and bloopers personally. I found the functionality to be above average, and the only complaint is the theme song playing on most menu screens.

The family unit is a strong one in the Kent family, and very bad in the Luther family. Clark is a good friend to Lana, and does not step in, when her boyfriend takes her for granted. I am not fond of all the lying this show contains because the Kents believe in hiding Clark’s secret from the world.
