Rhythm Heaven

There have been many great DS games released from the launch of the innovative new system to today (even). Developers far and wide are expanding the possibilities of game play. It is my job to find these video games and give them the light of day. When I purchased Rhythm Heaven for the DS, I knew it would be a great game, even just from looking at the box art. Rhythm Heaven, like the title says, is a music game in which the player must complete levels using different rhythm techniques.

Gameplay wise, it is nothing short of brilliant. Nintendo has created a game where using the touch-screen as the main control source is not only fun, but it does not become tiring. The player must tap, slide, and flick their way through over 50 rhythm based minigames, as well as bonus games they can unlock. This is a very fun to way, and can also show a person where they need to improve with their flow or where they are perfect. Nothing offensive was produced in gameplay.

Graphically, the game is cute. The art stands out with fully animated sprites while the games are in motion. The cute cartoon characters are also a welcome addition, as every minigame featured their own special characters. No offensive images were shown in my opinion.

The sounds of Rhythm Heaven are also equally amazing. Each level has it’s own style of music, ranging from rock to pop to dance to freestyle and even country. Anything that you’d think is there. Some songs talk about love and relationships, but nothing offensive in my opinion. The gameplay also goes well with the music, as the objectives of the games are to have a sense of rhythm with the music.

Once players complete a level, they are given a grade. If there is room to improve, they may at any time. When there is opportunity to get a PERFECT score, the player has three chances before the offer is lost. No worries. It will come again some other time, so that means more practice! Major replay value there, in this reviewers humble opinion. Rhythm Heaven is a game that should not be missed. It helps one understand rhythm and improve on it. The morals of the game also includes loving one another and that we should just relax and take it easy. Don’t miss this title! It would be a shame!
