Pinocchio
SCORE: 93
I can barely believe that Pinocchio is 70 years old. But it is, and Disney has a wonderful Blu-ray release of the movie. Disney went the extra mile by including a DVD of the movie in this package. This makes running comparisons of the two much easier. This Blu-ray disc is one of the classic Disney movies that has entertained children for a very long time. I remember seeing this movie as a child, and learned quite a few important lessons (more on those later). Walt Disney’s imagination, and good clean fun can be easily viewed in Pinocchio.
Pinocchio has never looked better in my opinion. I was honestly expecting this Blu-ray disc to look outdated. I was very pleasantly surprised by Pinocchio. The entire cartoon comes alive in ways I was not anticipating. There are images of smoking, and drinking. Those images are shown to be the wrong choices. Pinocchio gets sick from smoking, and that is another welcome image. There is fatherly love displayed, and heroics.
If you are whistling while thinking of Pinocchio then you know about the songs. The tunes are very catchy, and get stuck in your head. I can still hear a few of them right now. The verbal lessons teaching honesty are well received here at Family Friendly Gaming. Jiminy Cricket makes a wonderful conscious, and he encourages Pinocchio to go to school. Pinocchio’s innocence is portrayed perfectly.
Blu-rays are known for their extensive special features. Pinocchio contains such a large amount of extra content that it can take a few nights to go through all of it. My personal favorite is to see the storyboards from the deleted scenes including the alternative ending. The music video was surprisingly good as well.
The expanding menu screens reminded me of how most computer programs function. Select this option, and it opens up a menu screen to the right. The background images fit the theme of Pinocchio on Blu-ray masterfully. I have not seen this movie in a very long time, yet found it to be a timeless story that I enjoyed immensely.
Pinocchio teaches honesty, avoiding temptation, and doing the right
thing. The storyline alone is something worthy of thousands of sequels.
Not only that, I would like to see a sequel to Pinocchio. I would love
to see this fantasy world again, and to see Pinocchio explore the world,
and learn as a real boy. The magical element of becoming a real boy
ignites the imagination. I will be recommending Pinocchio to friends,
family, and pastors I know. Almost all have seen this movie in the past
though.
