Phantasy Star Universe

Phantasy Star Universe has got to be one of the worst Phantasy Star video games the RPG Master has played. Not only is the ultra violent first person action adventure mode being used (still), but it puts the player to sleep. Even the special attacks can not make up for it. Actually those special attacks seem to mainly be there to blind the player to the horrible graphics in Phantasy Star Universe. This game can be found on the Personal Computer (PC), Playstation 2 (PS2), and Xbox 360.Whichever system you feel like punishing with this mindless, ultra violent video game. The ESRB in their wisdom (or lack therefore) bestowed a ‘T’ for Teen rating. To the RPG Master the content is easily a ‘M’ rating. Maybe Sega can explain to this reviewer why little girls are wearing such short dresses, bending over, and showing off their underwear all the time.

Phantasy Star Universe looks horrible. The level of detail is atrocious. The monotony in the dull graphics made this reviewer scratch their head. There are brain washing levels of violent images, and then there is the inappropriate images of females. Sega stopped one step shy of child pornography in the RPG Master’s opinion.

The voice acting in Phantasy Star Universe is also uninspired. A lot of it sounded like it was being said inside a can. The music in Phantasy Star Universe is one of the few shining moments of this game. It is majestic like President Bush’s administration (losing him was a change for the worse).

Sega included offline, and online modes with Phantasy Star Universe. Neither are really worth your time or hard earned dollars. There are different items, areas, but again not worth your time.

Speaking of time, the hours this reviewer spent on Phantasy Star Universe can not be reclaimed. The game play is atrocious. The camera is not always the players friend, and there is little to no strategy. Occasionally with a boss the RPG Master had to run away for a second, then come back to attacking.

Phantasy Star Universe is the perfect example of what the video game industry needs to leave dead and buried. These ultra violent, completely boring games give all gamers a bad image. No sequels Sega, and it is time to return the series to its real role playing roots.
