Our House

Majesco Entertainment is the kind of publisher that always keeps us on our toes. Many of their games are very unique, and diverse from what Family Friendly Gaming expects. Our House on the Nintendo DS is one such game. The core of this hand held video game is a mini game compilation. It is encased in a home improvement package. Players get to take on the role of a contractor improving other houses, and they also have the option of spending their money on improving their very own house. The goal is to get your house to a certain dollar value.

The visuals in Our House are crisp, clean, clear, and fresh. Some of the items look a little small (like lamps), but generally I could tell what everything was supposed to be. Our House has a lot of nice images of different house styles, as well as home improvement equipment.

The instrumental version of the Our House song is played in this DS game. Which is a very cool tie in, in my opinion. I enjoyed helping other people improve their dwellings, and appreciated how positive this game stays. Making mistakes means the player gets told to try again. Majesco Entertainment has been good about this in a lot of their games, and I feel it is important to point out.

There are over one hundred projects the player can play, and it takes time to build up to the point of having a mansion. Our House contains a lot of items to improve, decorate, and furnish with. Some kind of mulitplayer modes would have put this game over the top, but they are not included. If you are looking for a fun home improvement based mini game compilation then you will find your money well spent on Our House.

The main controls in Our House are the touch screen. There are certain things (like rotating furniture around) that use the D-pad. The directions for each mini game is given before you play it, so pay attention to what it is saying. Most of the mini games are simple enough to play. I had fun playing Our House on the Nintendo DS.

Majesco Entertainment continues to impress Family Friendly Gaming with their fun video games that are safe for the entire family. Our House for the DS teaches lessons in hard work, making your environment better, and attention to detail. Gamers can also express their creative side in decorating a home, and laying out the furniture. I would love to see a sequel to this game, especially if multiplayer modes are included.
