Night at the Museum Battle of the Smithsonian The Video Game

Movie games are generally not regarded as good by most gamers. Thankfully Family Friendly Gaming does not go into a video game review with such prejudices. We are of course aware of them, but I refuse to go along with the herd. I like to play games first, and then make my own Biblically informed decisions. Night at the Museum Battle of the Smithsonian The Video Game on the DS is based on the Ben Stiller movie. The evil Egyptian must be stopped which means Larry Daley (Ben’s character) must use his flashlight to right the wrongs of everything in the museum coming to life.

The graphics are okay in this Nintendo DS video game.  Mr Daley’s facial features do not look very good. Bad characters will fire cannons, arrows, etc. at the player. The player stuns them with a flashlight, and then a second flashlight burst makes them go away. I was surprised at how family friendly the violent content is in Night at the Museum Battle of the Smithsonian The Video Game.

I really like the music in Night at the Museum Battle of the Smithsonian The Video Game. It fits the theme, and has a real majestic sound to it. There is some biting sarcastic humor included in the dialogue. I did not find any of it offensive though. The special effect sounds also fit this game like a key chain on a night guard.

Night at the Museum Battle of the Smithsonian The Video Game has one flaw, and that is the replay value. I got into this game because of its level design. Problem is it was over too quickly. Most players will beat this DS game in a week. Unless you want to find every single item there is little reason to replay it. There are also no multiplayer modes so that hurts this hand held game as well.

Different symbols retrieved grant special powers. For example the monkey allows the player to fly, and the elephant allows a stomp that breaks certain floors. These powers add a lot of strategy to this game. Certain skills must be used in certain areas in order to progress. The learning curve in Night at the Museum Battle of the Smithsonian The Video Game is perfect, and the level design is very intelligent. I had a lot of fun playing this game.

I love how light is used as a power in Night at the Museum Battle of the Smithsonian The Video Game. I also appreciated all of the information in this game on different exhibits, and history. I would love a sequel.
