Neopets Puzzle Adventure

SCORE: 83

Neopets Puzzle Adventure

Neopets Puzzle Adventure is a fun little Wii game from Capcom that is part strategy, and part board game. Players get the exciting choice of being blue or red coins. The crips and bloods could really get into Neopets Puzzle Adventure. Just kidding. In all seriousness Capcom provided a lot in Neopets Puzzle Adventure for families. There are a plethora of cute little characters the player can pick as their avatar, and selectable emotions. That is all window dressing as the core of this Wii game is the coin turning action. Create a line (straight or diagonal) that bridges one of your coins with where you place the second one, and all the coins in between become yours. Neopets grant special powers like turning a specific tile from theirs into yours. Strategically use these for some super combos which lead to high scores. Getting the high score is the goal of this game.

Neopets Puzzle Adventure looks okay on the Wii. It looks like a port from the PC that has been toned down a little bit. I was hoping for some crisper, and larger graphics in some of the screens. The artwork is great for these diverse looking creatures. Scrolling around the map screen would skip at times.

I was getting into the music in Neopets Puzzle Adventure. I liked the part of this Wii game where I was stopping bandits from raiding the town. The special effect sounds fit the theme of Neopets Puzzle Adventure just the way I would hope and expect them to. A lot of this game is helping others out and that works for me.

Capcom made sure there are a lot of different places to go, and characters to compete against. There are a lot of unlockable items that affect the game play in a lot of fantastic ways. Two players can play one another (which is great), but where is the online?

The strategy, thought, and depth of Neopets Puzzle Adventure humbles me. The ease at which anyone can walk in and play this game scores points in my book. I had a lot of fun playing Neopets Puzzle Adventure, especially the mini games (which break things up).

Neopets Puzzle Adventure is a great step for Capcom. This Wii game is approachable by anyone in the family. This inclusive nature is what the video game industry needs. Another one in this series would be appreciated, especially if online is included, and a graphical upgrade.
