Naruto Shippuden Ninja Council 4

It seems like every time I review a Naruto video game it is different from previous video games. It has gotten to the point that I am not even sure what I can expect from a Naruto title anymore. Naruto Shippuden Ninja Council 4 is part side scrolling action adventure, and part fighting game. Sounds like a strange mix? Well it is. Many of the characters from the anime are included in this Nintendo DS video game. They are more grown up than I have seen in previous games, and from the television shows I have seen.

The graphics are pretty tiny on the Nintendo DS. I was honestly expecting a bit more in visuals from Naruto Shippuden Ninja Council 4. The action adventure is running and jumping through areas to make it to the end of the level. Enemies spawn in certain places, and if you have to traverse an area again, expect them to be reappearing. The fighting levels are very repetitive with the violence as well. Special attacks can be used in certain instances, however I found a simple pattern to beat most characters.

If you have watched the anime television show, or played any previous games then you know exactly what to expect in the audio department of Naruto Shippuden Ninja Council 4. I like the special effect sounds, but the music did not really impress me. The mystical aspects of Naruto seem to be toned down in Naruto Shippuden Ninja Council 4. Many of the attacks put the words on the screen ala the 1960s Batman television show.

Naruto Shippuden Ninja Council 4 disappointed me in the replay department. There is a harder mode, and things that can be purchased with collectible items.  Other Naruto games I have played have a lot more extras though. Multicard game play is available for two to four players who own the same game cartridge.

My biggest issue with Naruto Shippuden Ninja Council 4 is the game play. The side scrolling action adventure levels are not very inspiring, and the same can be said for the one on one fighting portion. It is very repetitive, and there are a lot of spots where cheap hits can be acquired over and over again (until the player dies). I did not have fun playing Naruto Shippuden Ninja Council 4.

Naruto is out to stop evil, however many of his skills make me question if he is a good guy. A lot of the humor in Naruto Shippuden Ninja Council 4 is various characters being pretty mean to one another. Other characters are clueless as to the feelings of others.
