My Baby First Steps

I started playing My Baby First Steps with a smile on my face. The reason for my smile was games like this for girls have become common place. Video game developers and publishers (editor: especially publishers) have realized that girls are different from boys. Girls want different kinds of games. My Baby First Steps lets the player train a child as they are growing up in the toddler phase of life. Talents like walking, and talking are the big ones. My Baby First Steps claims it teaches children to play, but I have two children and know they do not need to be taught that at all. The microphone on the Nintendo DS is used to work on the speaking aspect of this game.

The animation of the toddlers is very realistic in My Baby First Steps. Crawling, walking, falling down, and getting back up brought back memories of my own children when they were that age. Things like blowing kisses will warm the coldest heart. The children are very well behaved in My Baby First Steps. That is true for some children, but for others that is not accurate. My sister used to say that babysitting other peoples children was the best birth control on the planet. My Baby First Steps will make girls want to have babies. When they do they are in for a major life shock.

My Baby First Steps has some awesome sound bytes of the toddlers sounds. Hearing them say mama, or dada is really cute. The kiss sounds as they blow kisses is also off the chart in terms of cuteness. This reflects the happy times in real life. There is a lot more in real life like ear infections, being up all night, and even emergency room visits. The music in My Baby First Steps is pleasant, and fits the theme of this hand held video game.

There are a lot of purchasable items in My Baby First Steps. Earn points, and then spend them on clothing for your toddler. There is a website dedicated to My Baby First Steps where you can share tips on caring for your baby. Only one player can play My Baby First Steps at a time. Players can take pictures of baby as they develop and grow. If you have a daughter who thinks babies are cute, then you will find your money well spent on this DS game.

My Baby First Steps has pretty easy and simple controls. Girls can learn patience by having to repeat verbal commands numerous times. Bear in mind that in real life it takes even longer. The touch screen controls work great. I did find the doctors numerous visits to be a bit over bearing. It would have been nice to go to the doctors office for a visit.

All in all I found My Baby First Steps to be a positive video game play experience. There are minor things like the game tells you to pamper your baby. That will turn the parent into the child’s slave if that continues later in life. I like how My Baby First Steps teaches girls to take good care of their babies. I would like to see a sequel to this game in the future. It was my pleasure to review My Baby First Steps.
