Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games is a definite improvement over the Summer Olympics version (editor: which was pretty good).  The Mario and Sonic franchises join to participate in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada. I love seeing these two big name universes merge together for some clean competition. Metal Sonic and Donkey Kong can join forces against Yoshi and Silver. Amy, Princess Peach, Bowser, and Vector can work together in a competition as well. The inter-mingling is one of the coolest features of this Wii game.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games looks fantastic. The characters animate well, and there are a lot of colors (editor: considering this is a Winter Olympics based game). The majority of the violence is done for humor. A character that loses a speed ice skating race may fall down for example. Hockey allows players to check the opposition. I personally did not get bothered by this. The party games can have some additional cartoon violence.

The music in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games is awesome. I loved the various songs, and special effects. Winning an event brings some great sounds. Different characters have diverse things to say when losing and winning. I did not hear any offensive sounds while playing Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games on the Wii.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games reminded me multiple times to take a break. There is so much to do, see, and play in this game that it will keep families busy for months. Sega awards the player with points that are used to purchase extras. Do well in certain events, and this will unlock additional events. There are 27 events, and 20 different characters. I feel that Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games is worth the money.

Sega got the controls in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games near flawless. The Balance Board can be used as well as the Wii Remote, and Nunchuk. This game explains how to control each game before they are played. I found every single game to control easily, and I wound up having a great time. Many of the games had similar controls, and that made things easier.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games teaches good, clean competition. Players learn to compete, do well, and improve upon their performances. Hockey is the only game that may bother some families. It is a casual hockey. Sega needs to publish more games like this one in the future.
