Major Minors Majestic March

Majesco Entertainment has a great recent track record with video games for the entire family. I was very excited to get to play Major Minor’s Majestic March on the Wii. Players get to take control of a cute cat character who wants to conduct a band in a world where being in front of a marching band is highly honored.  He is guided by a friend to a magical baton that his great, great grandma Gladiola used. This magical baton helps him become the kind of conductor he desires to become. Masaya Matsuura is the brilliant musical mind that brings this Majesco Entertainment published title to our family friendly offices (editor: and your homes if ya’ll choose to purchase this game).

Rodney Greenblat is the artist behind the visuals in Major Minor’s Majestic March. He gives us a friendly town vibrant with every color of the rainbow. There are all these musicians standing around waiting for a conductor to invite them. The animals march behind the conductor playing their various instruments. All of them are friendly without being overly cute. The magic baton has a valuable look to it. I did not find any offensive images while playing Major Minor’s Majestic March for the Nintendo Wii.

I already mentioned Masaya Matsuura, but did you know he is given credit for the creation of the music game genre? Musically speaking Major Minor’s Majestic March reminds me of watching marching bands in parades. Having to do the tempo myself is not as easy as I thought (editor: more on that to come). The music captures that distinctive feel perfectly. The magical baton can be a little over the top at times in my opinion. The informative tutorial is a part of this Wii game that all players need to utilize. Trust me on this one.

One player can play through Major Minor’s Majestic March, or two players can work together. Wii games are generally thought to have a lower difficulty level than ones on the Xbox 360, and Playstation 3. Major Minor’s Majestic March shatters that image. It took me over thirty minutes to beat the first level. This is not an easy game to master. You will play and replay levels trying to get it just right in order to progress. There are enough levels to keep most gamers busy for a few weeks at the very least.

I won’t beat around the bush when it comes to the controls in Major Minor’s Majestic March. They are way too sensitive. I could quickly go from a tempo that was too fast to a tempo that was too slow, right back to being too fast. This led to frustration, aggravation, and irritation. My shoulder wound up getting sore and tired from the continuous up and down motion required. That is another issue with Major Minor’s Majestic March - the repetitive nature of the motions required.

Major Minor’s Majestic March is a cute game that teaches marching in a band, being a conductor, thinking about others, and being accurate. It also gives an arm a workout. You can rotate arms and will have to if you plan on playing for any extended period. A sequel would be welcome if the controls are tweaked a bit.
