Madagascar Escape 2 Africa

I missed the first Madagascar movie, so I was curious to see what this franchise is all about. The lost animal (lion, hippo, zebra, and giraffe) are still lost. This time they get to see where they come from, Alex even gets to meet his parents. Reuniting a family is something that goes over really with Family Friendly Gaming. The lemur king is one of the strangest characters this reviewer has seen in any movie, especially an animated one. He pops out of a cake wearing a coconut bikini top, and a skirt. A penguin is in love with a bobble doll (spoiler: they wind up getting married).

The animation in Madagascar Escape 2 Africa is good. The landscape of Africa looks very realistic. The animals contrast this by walking on two feet, and acting human. Monkeys form a union and also act like humans. This movie tries to blur quite a few lines; including gender, and differences between human and animal. On the topic of humans, they are the bad guys in this film. There is some violence as an old lady beats up different animals. Penguins steal vehicles from people, and fly different vehicles.

Madagascar Escape 2 Africa has some well known songs in it. A few of these songs contain lyrics I would not want my younger siblings repeating, based on the sexual nature. This is really up to the individual parent. The bad lion deceives Alex, and the monkeys extort the penguins. There are also humorous moments in this movie. I loved the comedy that came from the penguins when they were flying.

The package Family Friendly Gaming received contained two discs. One is the main movie, and the other is The Penguins of Madagascar. Both of these include a lot of extra content. The four "music videos" had a bit too much booty shaking for me.

The menu screens in Madagascar Escape 2 Africa exhibit an intelligent design. I found it easy to move around in them. The story is good in some regards, and others are plain weird. The hippo and giraffe falling in love is one of the weird moments. The lemur king is also more than a little off. He tries (and eventually succeeds) in sacrificing an animal to a volcano to feed the gods.

Madagascar Escape 2 Africa teaches that dancing can win the hearts and minds of those who would do violence to you. That is not guaranteed as Alex gets knocked out by another lion at one point. These DVD's contain a lot of humor. Some of it hits, and some of it misses. A lesson in friendship can be found in this movie too. I would prefer a Cars sequel before another sequel to the Madagascar franchise.
