MLB Dugout Heroes

I normally do not like PC (Personal Computer) games. Sports games on the computer have had a bad habit of focusing on the stats. The problem with that is the gameplay suffers. So when I was one of the Family Friendly Gaming staffers who was allowed access to MLB Dugout Heroes I was not expecting a lot. In fact my pre-conceived notions were mostly negative. Installation, and loading took a few minutes on my machine and I thought here we go again.

Something happened when I started playing MLB Dugout Heroes. The fresh cute look to the game made this baseball title approachable. The stadiums have a decent look to them, and the crowd is okay. Sports games usually have a difficult time with the fans in the stands so that is not a big deal. It is something I look at in all sports games though. The special effects with hitting (especially home runs) brought a smile to my face.

I really like the music in MLB Dugout Heroes. It is upbeat, happy, and exciting. The announcers are okay in their comments. Like all sports games they can be off a little here and there. Part of that has to do with the speed of the action, mixed with the length of the sound byte. I enjoyed playing with the various options in the sound section as well.

MLB Dugout Heroes contains the Major League Baseball license which means all of the teams are present and accounted for. Players can compete against the computer and other humans online. MLB Dugout Heroes contains a nice amount of extra features, and options. This game is a lot of fun to replay over and over again.

How a baseball game is played can be good or bad depending on the idea behind the controls. I love the batting in MLB Dugout Heroes. This layout is exceptional. The pitching is generally good with one exception. When pressing the left mouse button to select where the ball will end up, the button must be kept down until the bar appears. A gauge appears and grows, which means the mouse button must be let go, and then pressed again when it comes back. This takes some time to get used to.

MLB Dugout Heroes is a game that is safe for the entire family. The characters are approachable because of their look and animation. Timing and team work are some of the lessons in this game. Parents should pay attention to who their children may play against because not everyone out there appreciates games that are safe for the entire family. I would love to see this game ported to the Wii.
