Love Takes Wing

The Love Comes Softly series has been a favorite of mine for years now. Since Family Friendly Gaming opened the door to review DVDs I was excited to do one on this series. Love Takes Wing is the seventh movie in the series, and there has been some shifting in the cast. Belinda Simpson is now being played by Sarah Jones, and Jordan Bridges is her love interest after her husband has long since passed away.  Haylie Duff plays her good friend (and fellow doctor) Annie Nelson. Patrick Duffy, and Lou Diamond Phillips are a couple of big names who round out the cast. This movie is set in the Old West where a mysterious illness (Cholera) is ravaging an orphanage. When the illness starts to get people in the town sick, they blame the orphans. It is up to the good doctor to save as many lives as she can.

Love Takes Wing has some great attire from a bygone era. The dresses the women get to wear are just fantastic. I also love how clean this movie is. There is a lot of drama, but no person on person violence. The person who sets a fire to kill the orphans is put in jail for their crime.

Love Takes Wing deals with various issues. One of them is a woman doctor. Belinda shows the town that she can do the job, and works to earn their respect. Attitudes are also dealt with and exposed as being bad in a lot of different characters. The anger and pain that Belinda starts with eventually softens due to a patient loving man. The music fits the themes of the scene and is of very high quality.

The only thing that draws Love Takes Wing down is the extras. There are some movie trailers when the movie first starts. From there the main menu has a preview for Marley and Me. This was a disappointment to me personally, and would like to see sequels improve upon.

The reason most of us will purchase Love Takes Wing is for the movie. The movie is exceptional, and one of the best one in the Love Comes Softly series. I love how she cares for the orphans and diligently works to solve the situation. The assistance she accepts winds up making the difference. I did not have any tears with Love Takes Wing though.

I have not grown tired of this series even though it has made it to seven movies. I want more movies like Love Takes Wing. I will be recommending Love Takes Wing to friends, family, and pastors I know (and all of ya’ll as well). Great movie!
