LittleBigPlanet

I heard a lot about LittleBigPlanet on the Playstation 3. So when the opportunity came up to play the Playstation Portable (PSP) version I was all over it. Customization is one of the major draws of this franchise. Players get to take on the role of Sackboy in LittleBigPlanet. Players get to collect clothing, stickers and more. The background can be manipulated in levels as well as Sackboy. If that were not enough players can build their own levels. Sony included so many tools that you can create levels as complex as the ones included. It will take patience and effort, but it is worth it in the end.

Graphically LittleBigPlanet has an artistic style all its own. There are realistic items included in this hand held video game, and there are some that look like they were taped on. All of this blends nicely. There is some minor violence as certain characters can be dispensed. Your poor little character can also come to his demise in various traps.  The level of violence is less in LittleBigPlanet than in most side scrolling action adventure games I have played.

The narrator has the best voice I have heard in a video game in a very, very long while. His soothing sounds make this one great game to listen to. I had to turn the volume up to hear him, but that was okay. The special effect sounds are good, and fit the theme of this game. Some of them are quirky, and others are funny. Blowing up my poor little Sackboy never felt right to me though, and the sound amplified that.

LittleBigPlanet shines brightly in the extras department. This hand held video game includes a lot of customization that can keep creative gamers busy for months. There are multiplayer modes that encourage community. You know how much we love community here at Family Friendly Gaming.

The controls in LittleBigPlanet are simple enough to learn. This game does a great job of training the player on how to play this game. Randomly I ran into issues going between front and back paths. I think I may have been doing something wrong because it was not consistent. Nor was anyone else able to verify it. I had fun playing LittleBigPlanet, and love the creativity this game encourages.

A basic reading ability is needed to learn how to play LittleBigPlanet. Following directions is one thing I learned, as well as getting to express my artistic side. I think it is great that Sony created this game, and hope to see sequels in the future. What kind of levels will you create?
