Jada

Jada is the kind of film that can illicit plenty of strong emotions. This family loses its father, and the insurance company refuses to pay. They make various claims to keep the money. The now single mother with two teenagers has to try and survive. They lose their house, many of their possessions, and wind up homeless. Eventually they find help, and wind up in the projects. This is where life gets interesting, as they find life there has a whole different set of rules.

There is violence in Jada, as a young man is initiated into a gang. There are also various threats, and physical altercations between characters. Gang members commit crimes, and use physical violence to force their will upon others. There are also wonderful images of churches, and quite a few characters who dress appropriately.

There is profanity in Jada, however it is beeped out. I was pretty impressed to hear that. There is some cool music that ranges from gospel to R&B to rap. One of the main characters mentors a teenager who no longer has a father figure. Certain characters apologize, and treat others with great respect. Jada has conflict, and not all of it gets worked out.

The Jada Family Friendly Gaming received had no extra features. There was a play choice, and that was it. I understand that Jada is a smaller published film, but I would expect something like previews at the very least. I was disappointed in this area of this DVD.

Jada functions just fine. I ran into no issues with that. The story is a good one that starts out sad, but winds up showing a lot of hope in the end. There were some disconnects in this film though. There were things referenced that the movie did not explain. There was also some strange timing for a few things. Some events in my opinion should have happened later or earlier for a better flow.

I love the lesson of trusting God in Jada. This family goes through some tough times. Throughout it all they survive. I also like some of the questions Jada poses. A lot of good people move out of the projects. The projects then wind up degenerating. Is it any wonder that happens? When all the good people wind up leaving?
