Iron Man
SCORE: 65
Iron Man is one of Marvel Comics most flawed heroes. He is also one of the most fragile. Injured by his own weapons of war, technology is his savior and his prison. This near death experience makes him do some soul searching, and he decides to clean up his own mess. He creates a suit of armor, and works to take his company a different direction. Which is some measure of an improvement from being a pompous, cocky, greedy, sex enslaved, womanizing drunk.
Visually this DVD makes Iron Man look like a real hero. There is a lot of violence, and some gore to be found in this PG-13 rated movie. The violence mainly comes from war type scenes, where Iron Man and others have little respect for lives. Tony Stark comes so close to that line that it really is difficult to tell the good guys from the bad guys. The technology that keeps his heart pumping is the gore part of this DVD. There are also some female characters trying to entice to lust with their attire, and scenes that lead the viewer to believe sex outside of marriage was performed and acceptable.
The main language issues in Iron Man come from Tony Stark as he is being a chauvinistic pig. Men who act that way in real life give the rest of us a really bad name. There are some words in this DVD that I would not want children, or teenagers using. Sadly it detracts from an otherwise interesting story. Iron Man also includes a subtle environmental preaching lesson, and a gentle anti-war message.
Iron Man contains a generous amount of extra content that are all related to Marvel Comics, the movie, and the Iron Man franchise. I enjoy these kinds of things and wish more movies were chock full of them. If you are looking for an explosive Iron Man movie then you may find this DVD worth the price of admission.
There is a technology feel to the menu screens in Iron Man. I found the menu screens generally simple enough to navigate through. A few of them were so busy that I paid little attention to the buttons, but most of my attention to the backgrounds. I had no problems with working my way around the DVD of Iron Man.
This movie takes some
illogical cheap shots at companies, wealthy people, and those that make
weapons. Tony Stark himself is a hypocrite for wanting to take his
company away from weapons, but himself works on the different suits of
armor. I wish the director had found less offensive ways to get across
the problems of the character early on. Typical Hollywood does not show
the downside of womanizing, or drinking - which is needed if they ever
want to be considered fair and balanced.
