Harvest Moon DS

Harvest Moon DS was one of those titles I was very excited to get from Natsume. Sadly my excitement waned when I ran into all the goddess garbage that infects this video game. Players spend most of their time picking up grass, rocks, and logs keeping the land clean. Then the land can be tilled, and seeds can be planted. Water the plants, and once they grow to the right point they can be picked. Money is made by putting items in the box for the mayor. There are also these magical sprite characters that can be collected. When you have enough money then you can get animals for the farm. For some reason the charm of Animal Crossing is not found within Harvest Moon DS (editor: at least for this reviewer).

Harvest Moon DS has some decent visuals in most regards but there are a few problems. The colors are generally bright, but not very varied. Some of the backgrounds are repetitive, and bland. There is the issue of the witch, goddess, and magic in this game that promotes eastern religious dogma.

I am disappointed in the sounds found within Harvest Moon DS. The music is average at best, but all this goddess garbage got under my skin. Why is such religious indoctrination needed? If this game was teaching about God the secular media would be attacking it like crazy. But it teaches anti-God beliefs they leave it alone.

If you are capable of stomaching the bad content found within Harvest Moon DS, then there is a lot of replay found. There is a lot of repetition in this Nintendo DS cartridge. Natsume included a lot to unearth, but much of it is very unwelcome. Even though this game can be found for under twenty US Dollars, I would advise you to save your money for a much better game.

Some of the controls in Harvest Moon DS make little sense to me. The arrangement of the buttons is irritating at best. I am not sure what Natsume was thinking in this kind of a layout. Finding the store to purchase seeds for the first time can be frustrating. I spent days running around trying to find it. I finally discovered that using the phone allowed me to purchase items from stores. The little farmer gets tired pretty quickly and can wind up passing out from working too hard.

I had some high expectations for Harvest Moon DS, after all it is being called: “Family Friendly” by secular gaming media outlets. Obviously they are misleading a lot of people probably because they are not in touch with real families. I offer a warning that this game may very well offend you deeply, especially if you have a strong walk with God. If Natsume takes out all the goddess, and witch garbage a sequel would be welcome.
