Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Family Friendly Gaming is on the home stretch of reaching the four digit mark of reviews online. With all of those reviews we have not touched on the Harry Potter franchise until now. Some people love the books, movies, and games. Others have a major problem with the magical elements in the franchise. I am reviewing Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince for the Nintendo DS. I will keep my review focused in on this product, and let our readers research the franchise for themselves. I have always felt that people can come to their own conclusions based on learning the information.

The first thing that I noticed about Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was the graphics. I have seen a lot of games on the Nintendo DS, and this one has some bad graphics. The characters are tiny, and look like they are taped on to the backgrounds. The animation of the characters is also lacking, and strange flashes happen between dialogue bubbles. The violence is light, as is the magical elements. I was honestly expecting a lot more magical content than is included in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

I enjoyed the music in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. It fit the theme of this franchise, and is one of the shining lights in this Nintendo DS game. The dialogue in the story is about stopping this bad guy - pretty typical storyline that we have come to know and understand. The characters interact well.

If you like the mini games in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince then you will enjoy this hand held video game. Most of them are pretty simple. Once you make it through the story I doubt many will want to replay the game from the top.

The game play in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is pretty simple, and the game does a good job of teaching the player what to do. I did run into a few problems here and there trying to complete tasks. Maybe I was tired, but I could not always get the timing right. Other times I was not clear on certain aspects of the directions.

The magical elements of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is the biggest problem most families will have. It is lighter in this game than I was expecting, but it is still present. The mini game compilation inside a storyline is a good one, but this game needs some work before sequels should come.
