Garfields Funfest

Garfield’s Funfest is in some ways the perfect hand held video game. Black Lantern Studios made sure that the pace of the game is quick. Garfield’s health drops every second, so food must be consumed. No worries when having problems with certain jumping sequences because Odie is there after the first level. When Garfield’s health drops to zero he falls asleep and Odie becomes controllable. He then has the same amount of health to find an alarm clock and bring it back to Garfield. Do it in time, and Garfield returns with full health again. The WMG should note that there are only so many alarm clocks allowed per level.

Garfield’s Funfest is alive with color in this side scrolling 2D adventure. The graphical detail is way better than the WMG was ever expecting. The art work is exceptional in this game. Garfield can scratch enemies to make them vanish, and that is the violent content in this Nintendo DS video game. The dancing levels have some humorous animation.

Garfield’s Funfest contains a very light amount of Garfield’s attitude. The WMG appreciates how that was not accentuated in this video game. The mice characters offer guidance that is always welcome. The music is worth listening to, and the WMG found it compliments the theme of this DS game. The only complaint is when Garfield takes damage - that sounds was annoying to this reviewer.

The one area of Garfield’s Funfest that needs improvement is the replay department. Garfield’s Funfest is really short, and can be beaten in a few hours of game play. There are awards for doing certain things, and they can be earned by replaying certain levels. A trophy here or there was not enough for the WMG to be that interested in replaying Garfield’s Funfest. It will take children a little longer to complete Garfield’s Funfest. The price will determine if this DS game is worth it or not.

Garfield’s Funfest has great controls, and the level design is pretty simple to solve. The WMG is not a fan of games where the life drains away every second. Garfield’s Funfest makes this reviewer re-evaluate that opinion, because it works masterfully. The level design shows an intelligent design, even if there is nothing drastically innovative about them. The WMG had fun playing Garfield’s Funfest, and wishes it was a longer game.

Garfield’s Funfest teaches team work, concentration, and working at a relationship. Violence is a choice to get past the enemies, but it makes more sense to leave the enemies alone since the benefit almost always outweighs the potential losses.
