Funny Face

Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire star in the romantic musical Funny Face. Over fifty years later Funny Face has been improved with the colors. It does not say digitally remastered, but I suspect it has at least been touched up. Whatever the case Funny Face looks really good. I had forgotten how young Audrey Hepburn had been at one time. Fred Astaire could still dance at his age, and the romance that develops between the two complicates the storyline in ways that you will just have to see. Unless of course you have already seen Funny Face, then you know exactly what happens in this movie. I am very happy to see Paramount release classics like Funny Face, because it shows current day producers what makes a good movie.

Funny Face comes from an era where women dressed in a way that left a lot to the imagination. They carried themselves around as respectable, and men would have to work diligently for their affections. Patience was a well kept virtue (editor: among others). I should note that there are women in swimwear near the beginning of Funny Face, but they are way more covered up than in current day fashions. There are plenty of scenic images on this DVD.

It is a real treat to review a DVD that does not contain foul language. Funny Face does bring forth some interesting intellectual concepts from academics. The best part of that for me is to see (editor: many decades later) how those concepts failed, and led to societal problems. I like how this movie takes time to grow the love between the characters.

Paramount included on DVD disc for the movie, and the other one for special features. The sheer amount of special features on Funny Face is great - especially when considering this is a centennial collection release. I have seen packages with recent films that have less extras included. I wish there were more films like this one coming out every year.

I enjoy classical films like Funny Face. Everyone involved did a good job at their craft, and it shows. The different kinds of dancing range from exceptional, to down right bizarre. There are a few good songs in Funny Face, and a few that just did not do much for me. The menu screens are easy to navigate through, and even an old dog like myself got through them just fine. Putting the movie on one disc, and the special effects on the other makes a lot of sense.

Funny Face has a photographer falling in love with a brand new model that had no interest in that world. They fall in love, and their diverse backgrounds cause some issues. The world of fashion, and acadamia clash hard in Funny Face.
