Flywheel

Flywheel is the first film that came from Sherwood Pictures. It is interesting to see where the creators of Facing the Giants, and Fireproof cut their teeth. Flywheel is the story of a used car salesman who realizes swindling people is not a wise way to do business. He decides to be honest, and fair with his prices. He completely turns his life over to God, and starts to follow the principals in the Holy Bible. He applies this transformation to all areas of his life. He even goes so far as to pay back people who he feels he took advantage of in the past. This movie was created on a budget of twenty thousand dollars.

Flywheel is an independent film, and the visuals show this (editor: even in the directors cut version). There are no offensive images. Flywheel has a lot of images of cars, and a few of them are really cool. I enjoyed the contrast of images that ranged from ignoring ones family, to spending time with them. I did not find any offensive images while watching Flywheel on DVD.

There is not a lot of music in Flywheel, however the dialogue is fantastic. There are plenty of important themes in this film. Bible verses are read here and there. They are then directly applied to the story at hand. I appreciated all of the apologies he makes because of how genuine they are. There are a few scenes of anger and arguing in the first half of this film.

Providence Films included a fair amount of extras on the DVD of Flywheel. Some of the standout bonuses are outtakes, deleted scenes, 8-part Bible study, commentary, previews, trailer, the making of, and a special message from Stephen Kendrick. If you are a history buff, or you like to see what Sherwood Pictures started with, then you will find your money well spent on Flywheel. I also believe families looking for good quality entertainment will also enjoy Flywheel quite a bit. An extra that surprised me was the subtitles in twelve different languages.

Flywheel tells a great story of redemption, honesty, and correcting mistakes. It never is too late to turn our lives around, and that message resonates throughout this movie. I had a lot of fun watching Flywheel. The menu screens function nicely, and have a great layout.

I am very thankful that this movie was produced, and eventually released. I watched it out of the Triple Play package from Sherwood Pictures. I am very curious to see what film they come up with next. Flywheel must have taught them a lot of lessons, and I am glad they learned them. I hope and pray that this movie helps millions turn their lives around.
