Final Fantasy X-2

The cult following that the Final Fantasy series enjoys is one of strangest things in the role playing game genre. The reason the RPG Master says this is the Final Fantasy series is average at best, but the rabid fanboys love it anyways. Final Fantasy X-2 is a true sequel to a previous Final Fantasy game (Final Fantasy X). Yuna goes looking for her love whom she believes is really alive. A lengthy quest acquiring ancient artifacts somehow relate to this search, and thus the player is launched back into this fantasy world of Spira. One interesting tweak that Square Enix threw in is the ability to jump from platform to platform. In other words aspects of a platform game were thrown into this role playing game.

The graphics in Final Fantasy X-2 are a letdown. Almost every female character (editor: and you start with a female only cast) is missing a lot of clothing. It is like Square Enix decided to remove as much clothing as possible, and have this game permeate with enticement to lust. The enslavement to sexual obsession is all over this game. The graphical details do not look like an improvement from the last one, in fact some areas look smaller and/or re-used. The core of the violent content is also included in Final Fantasy X-2.

The voice acting in Final Fantasy X-2 is corny at best. There is also language that brings this review section down - quite a bit. The music is pretty standard for a Final Fantasy game, but again a lot of the music in Final Fantasy X-2 is rehash or re-used. There are some songs that are interesting, but placed in the wrong areas of the game for this gamer.

Final Fantasy X-2 includes plenty of jobs, clothing, and other such unlockable content. The problem is the whole point of this game is to find Tidus, and the player has to waste a lot of time on boring quests. The desire to do side quests in Final Fantasy X-2 is diminished because of the storyline. This is a PS2 game that can be left on the shelf unless you are a glutton for seeing women treated as sexual objects.

The attempts at adding platforming to the Final Fantasy series does not feel right. No complaints against Square Enix for trying something different, but it does not quite work right all the time. The role playing turn based battles work like any other Final Fantasy game of recent years with a few minor tweaks. The RPG Master did not have any fun playing Final Fantasy X-2 on the Playstation 2.

Final Fantasy X-2 includes a lot of different lessons, the main one is fighting for the people you love. Greed, lust, and woman power are also lessons included in this PS2 video game. Final Fantasy X-2 is a game that this reviewer was embarrassed to play, and would not want others to see it. No sequels are needed.
