Fantasy Aquarium World

Fantasy Aquarium World turns your television into a virtual aquarium. Players get to put fish in the tank, watch them swim around, and occasionally clean out the tanks. If that is all there was to this Wii game, then my review would end right there. Destineer included challenges which wind up unlocking additional fish. A few of the twenty-five fish are extinct or not completely discovered (Loch Ness Monster anyone). Many of the fish are beautiful to look at, and have a real soothing effect (editor: at least to this reviewer).

Fantasy Aquarium World looks like a fish tank, and the fish look realistic. My one quibble is with the size. Many of the fish look small. I did not find a zoom feature to get a closer look at the fish while they were in my tanks. Another idea that would have gone a long way would be to have a camera mode that would follow one fish around. Certain kinds of fish do not like other kinds, and certain breeds will eat others. So be careful what you put in the same tank together.

I enjoyed the music in Fantasy Aquarium World. At times this game felt a little too quiet. There are options in the menu screens to adjust the audio department, and that is something I appreciate. I did not hear any offensive sounds, or ready any offensive words in Fantasy Aquarium World.

There are a fair amount of challenges, and a decent amount of tanks for the player in Fantasy Aquarium World. The replay section is going to suffer from the problems in the game play section. Patience my friends, and we will get to that. The twenty five fish is nice, but I would have hoped for a lot more on the Wii. Destineer gets points for including the Loch Ness Monster. I think it would have been cool if there had been more prehistoric sea life included.

Fantasy Aquarium World allows the feeding to be automated. Cleaning of the tanks is something the player has to do, but there is little interaction with the fish. Take them out via a net before cleaning is not playing with them in my book. I hate to admit this, but I actually fell asleep watching the fish swim around. So if you are needing some sleep, watching this game is an option. Some of the challenges are things like keep a fish alive for three days.

So if you are expecting a lot of action, Fantasy Aquarium World is not where to look. I do like the concept and the idea behind this game. Children can learn about how to run an aquarium, and there is a lot of good marine knowledge.
