Faith Like Potatoes

Faith Like Potatoes may very well be the most powerful film I have seen all year long. Sure the year has not even completed the first quarter, but still. A South African white farmer faces amazing challenges. His life is in jeopardy because of his race, he has a language barrier with the Zulus, and Africa is not the most hospitable environment for farming. His ancestry is Scottish and he has a wee bit of a temper if you know what I mean lads and lassies. He is working constantly, stressed out, and fighting to provide for his family. Begrudgingly he goes to church, and gives his life to God. Immediately there is a drastic change in his life, and every aspect of his life improves. He winds up preaching, praying, and being a part of numerous miracles (editor: including raising a Zulu lady from the dead).

There is a lot of beauty, and savagery in Africa. Faith Like Potatoes shows some of this. The images of faith and miracles are such an eye opener for those of us in America. There is also a very bloody and troubling scene involving the death of a child. It is only fair that I warn you about it. Early on the main character has a lot of anger, and hits his workers. Certain characters smoke and drink as well.

Faith Like Potatoes has a wonderful message of faith, and what makes it so much better is it is based on a true story.  Prayer is very powerful, and following God’s will always has its own reward. I should issue a warning on the audio department since there are some language problems early on in this film. The improvement in this is very evident after he gives his life to God. The friendships he gathers in life are very precious and a powerful testament.

Affirm Films did a good job with the film, and Sony Pictures made sure plenty of extras are included. I enjoyed all the different features giving the backdrop to the real life people, and areas in the film. Faith Like Potatoes is a strong movie, but one I will definitely be watching again in the near future. I feel that Faith Like Potatoes is worth the price of admission - for teenagers and adults. Children may not understand certain concepts in this film.

Faith Like Potatoes functions well, and there is some nice designs to the menu screens. The acting in Faith Like Potatoes is spectacular. The pain and suffering the actors express is very believable. I felt such pain, loss, and agony when the accident happens. I could understand his suffering, and felt so very bad for him.

This is one strong DVD that not everyone will cherish. With that said I do find Faith Like Potatoes a very important film. It deals with racial problems, working together, faith, and trusting God. In uncertain times like we now live, these are much needed lessons. I am going to learn a little more about the life of Angus Buchan because of this DVD.
