Escape to Witch Mountain

The year was 1975, and I was not even a twinkle in my parents eyes. A lot of kids saw this Disney family classic, and  remember it fondly. I missed them until now, but my hubby remembers these movies (editor: and the books). Our own children have gotten to experience this movie, and it instantly drew them in. Escape to Witch Mountain is an exploration film where two children with powers try to find out about their past. The little girl Tia has flashes of their past, but can not always make sense of them. The children can move things with their mind, talk to animals, talk to one another with their minds, and listen in on conversations in other rooms.

Escape to Witch Mountain has a lot of wonderful nature scenery. Trees, mountains, and the ocean are some of the highlights on this DVD. This movie reminds me of the Pacific Northwest and how beautiful it is. At least before mega-cities like Seattle have caused such environmental damage. The children are respectful, even when trying to escape the bad guys. There are some threatening moments that are short lived.

The children spend most of the movie trying to learn about their past, and understanding why they have such powers. Bad characters want to exploit their gifts, and learn how to do the same things. By todays standards many of the bad characters seem tame. That only shows how far our society has moved in a certain direction. I love how the children make it back to their own people, and escape the bad guys.

Escape to Witch Mountain has some nice special features. Being a Mickey Mouse fan, I enjoyed the Pluto’s Dream House cartoon. Disney has been good about packing extra content on their DVD’s, and Escape to Witch Mountain is no exception. I enjoyed this movie, and noticed my children did as well. Family Friendly Gaming has not commented on languages in the past, but this DVD has French and Spanish subtitles.

I had no problems with the functionality of Escape to Witch Mountain. The DVD operates as it should, and the menu screens are laid out in an intelligent design. I like the background screens, although they are from an older era.

If aliens, psychic powers, and a black cat bother you, then avoid Escape to Witch Mountain. I found this movie to be comparable to ET. The mountain is called Witch Mountain because the aliens live there, and people are afraid of them. Race to Witch Mountain is coming soon, so sequels are covered.
