Diss and Make Up The Clique

Diss and Make Up The Clique is a strange Nintendo DS game targeted at tween girls. Part of this hand held video game is playing mini games, and another part is climbing the clique social ladder. This is done by gossiping about other people. An example would be a girl maxing out her credit card, and not being able to purchase anything new. Diss and Make Up The Clique has some wild personalities in it. A lot of them are very rude when the player first starts. Some of these may be meant to be humorous, but it comes across as mean.

The graphics range in Diss and Make Up The Clique from nice, crisp, and clean (on the top end) to small (on the low end). Most of the mini games are not graphical super powers.  A lot of design was given to the various characters, and outfits. There are some outfits I would never wear, and I would not have been let out of the house dressed like that.

Diss and Make Up The Clique has some rock band kind of music playing in the background in some areas of the game. There is nothing I am familiar with, and it was not to my personal taste. The comments by the characters did bother me. Smack talk is also present when the player dishes out good gossip. The shallow nature of many of the girls amplifies stereotypes that do not help girls grow into productive women. Most of the characters exhibit bad attitude problems.

Diss and Make Up The Clique can take awhile to play in order to get to the highest clique. The mini games for classes, and jobs (at the mall) are okay. None of them are ones I wanted to replay a lot though. There are also not a lot of them, which means the gossip game becomes more prominent. As an adult I realize how pointless the whole “popularity game” really is. So becoming the top snob who mistreats others did not appeal to me.

The total touch screen controls of Diss and Make Up The Clique works. I kept finding myself hitting buttons during conversations though. It would have been nice if there had been both control modes had been included in starting, and continuing conversations. This is a minor quibble though. I had some fun playing the various mini games for a few minutes.

I did not realize until I got into Diss and Make Up The Clique, how much the storyline would bother me. It is sad to me that the main characters parents are not there at the beginning of Diss and Make Up The Clique. The lack of parental involvement would be a major mistake in real life. I am not sure this Nintendo DS game teaches that lesson. Diss and Make Up The Clique is a different kind of hand held video game. I would say that your family needs to definitely follow the ESRB’s opinion at a minimum.
