Disney Princess Magical Jewels

Disney Princess Magical Jewel is a pretty good little video game for girls on the Nintendo DS. My friends over at Disney Interactive published this fun little save the kingdom title. Girls get to take on the role of some of the most well known princesses from the Disney movies. Their goal is to help the little sprite character retrieve the jewels before the wicked witch does. The wicked witch is not lady like at all. She is ultra aggressive, evil, hateful, and intolerant of goodness. Girls get to stop her from her progressive agenda, and return the land to traditional understandings. The only thing that would make this game better is if they had some Wisdom Tree like teachings in it.

Disney Princess Magical Jewel has a fluidic color scheme that is very pleasing to the eye. Soft colors are used throughout, and this enhances the video game play experience. There is a little cartoon violence as sprite will take out enemy characters, and they will lay down, and flowers will grow near them. I guess that means pushing up daisies.

I enjoyed the musical content found within Disney Princess Magical Jewel on the Nintendo DS. The different tracks made me feel like I was in a magical kingdom, and the hateful witch has her irritating music as well. The special effect sounds fit the theme of this video game perfectly.

There are plenty of items to collect in each level. If you are looking for a perfect score then there is a lot of replay value. The length of Disney Princess Magical Jewel is long enough to keep most girls busy for a few weeks at least. I love the helping theme, but the game play issues (editor: in the next paragraph) might be the deterrent. The price of Disney Princess Magical Jewel is under twenty dollars new now, so that should be factored into your purchase making decision.

The biggest problem with Disney Princess Magical Jewel is how repetitive the action is. There is no diversity in how the overwhelming majority of this DS video game is played. The controls work as they should. I did run into some problems with the going up and down stairs when I first started playing. Disney Princess Magical Jewel feels like it was partially designed for girls, but the gameplay is more for boys.

I am very happy to see Disney Interactive releasing a game like Disney Princess Magical Jewel on the DS. This is certainly a start in the right direction. The franchise of their princesses is an excellent one to build on in future releases. A possible sequel could be to get to play the different women before they became princesses, or through the events in the movies. Helping others is an excellent lesson as well as staying away from evil.
