Delgo
SCORE: 84
Delgo is an interesting Romeo and Juliet kind of a movie. In a
fantasy world where two different kind of humanoid creatures co-exist,
there is a lot of bad blood. A princess, and a young man from the other
side of the tracks become friends. Little do they know that a past
villain is working things behind the scenes to ignite the fires of war.
When both sides lost so many in the last war, it is not difficult to see
how easily they can be led back to it.
I like the animation styled used in Delgo. The various creatures animate
nicely, and some of the greatest scenes contain these little animals.
There is violence in Delgo as two nations go to war. There was no blood
or gore, even when one character gets skewered all the way through by a
sword. I did like how the good characters helped one another out, and
saved one another (even when they were from the other race).
The voice acting in Delgo is top notch. I really enjoyed listening to
the characters, especially the history of their world. Louis Gosset Jr.,
Malcolm McDowell, Val Kilmer, Burt Reynolds, and Jennifer Love Hewitt
are some of the big names that voice act in Delgo. The music fits the
theme of this movie perfectly. I did not notice any bad language while
watching Delgo.
Delgo contains a few nice extras that will interest families all over
the world. I personally enjoyed the behind the scenes look into the
making of this movie. The Chameleon short is spectacular, and one of my
favorite short animations in years. Deleted scenes, audio commentary,
sounds of Delgo, creatures of Delgo, and a few more surprises are also
contained.
The menu screens are easy to navigate through, and getting to the main
menu is quick. I ran into no issues with the functionality of Delgo. I
love the main storyline of coming together even when we have
differences. There is so much mistrust in our world that movies like
Delgo can help (at least I can hope) show us the folly of generational
hatred.
I really enjoyed watching Delgo, and found it to be a sleeper hit. It
may not be as well known as other animated films, but I hope many of
ya'll will give it a chance. I found this world so fascinating that I
hope there is some kind of a sequel. The imagination used to create
Delgo has caught my eye, and I hope for good things from these people in
the future.
