Chaotic Shadow Warriors

Activision brings to life the world of the popular card game Chaotic, in Chaotic: Shadow Warriors. Shadow Warriors is a turn based RPG game focusing on finding new cards to use in defeating the armies of the opposition. The story begins with some items being stolen from an arsenal, then you have to help track down those responsible. Shadow Warriors mirrors the trading card game in which the player must use attacks, mugic (magic), taunts and more. Using different cards and items that are collected during the story mode performs the necessary actions during battles.

The gameplay in Chaotic: Shadow Warriors is spotty at best. While walking around the environments, there can be some issues with jumping and controlling the character. The battle sequences were a nice attempt by the developers to implement motion, but this ultimately provides little enhancement to the game. If you are not familiar with the Chaotic card game, then it will be difficult to simply pick up the game and enjoy some RPG action. The turn based RPG style in Shadow Warriors loses its luster due to the over complicated control scheme. Even using the tutorial will only get you so far, as the game does not explain which creatures are best for which encounters.

The creatures in Shadow Warriors are definitely wild, imaginative monsters. Even though the game is rated E 10+, parents should be very careful in deciding if this style of character modeling is what they want their children to see. The characters themselves seem unfinished and lack necessary detail.

Chaotic: Shadow Warriors provides a story mode and versus mode (for two players). Fans of the trading card game will likely enjoy playing through the story mode, but there is little more to offer. Parents should keep in mind that the focus for Chaotic: Shadow Warriors are the battle sequences. If you have children that are interested in this game and it is purchased, I would recommend sitting with your child and discussing issues such as magic, fighting and taunting.

I give Activision credit for trying to implement the motion of the Wii system into Chaotic: Shadow Warriors, but unfortunately it does not provide the gaming experience I was hoping for. Unless you or your child is a fan of the Chaotic franchise, you will probably want to pass on Shadow Warriors.
