Cars Race O Rama

In the realm of family friendly products, Cars is huge. When I was at E3 this summer, and saw Cars Race O Rama I got very excited. This is the third major video game release based on this franchise from THQ. They have improved each and every time. Cars Race O Rama is a huge step up from the previous games in terms of square footage. There are a lot more areas to explore, and less loading times. The amount of customization Incinerator Studios (the developer) included is absolutely insane. Chick now has his own school (teaching racing), and is competing against Lightning and Doc.

The shine and polish in Cars Race O Rama is evident from the first screen. I have never seen the Disney Pixar Cars characters look so good before. There are some nice touches like wind storms blowing sand across the road in certain places. Getting to go to the city, and drive around the major Radiator Springs race track are really neat treats. You can bump into other cars, but this is generally discouraged. In fact when you do that you will get an audio byte of displeasure.

The music in Cars Race O Rama threw me at first. It was a little different from the previous games. It is not bad, just different. I was disappointed to hear certain sound bytes recycled from the movie. There are new ones, and the car sounds are fantastic. In fact I liked a few of the new comments from various characters.  I did not hear any offensive comments in Cars Race O Rama.

THQ made sure that Cars Race O Rama went all out in terms of customization. The hood, wheels, side skirts, spoilers, bumper, and paint job are all adjustable. If that were not enough there is a mind blowing amount of mini games, unlockable characters, and items included in Cars Race O Rama. They also included a multiplayer mode so more than one person can compete in this game. I enjoy the Cars franchise, and feel this game is worth your hard earned dollars.

The controls have been tweaked in Cars Race O Rama a bit. Gentler is better when playing this game. A hard turn can put you in a U-turn. Once I got myself acclimated to the controls I was winning races, and having fun. I enjoyed the continued story of the Cars franchise, and seeing where it progresses.

Cars Race O Rama earns the Family Friendly Gaming seal of approval. This game is safe for the entire family, and brings together all ages. I learned to race clean, help my friends, and to think about others (editor: from this game). After three games, I am still not tired of this franchise, and want more.
