Cars Race O Rama

Cars Race O Rama has made it to the Playstation Portable (PSP). This hand held is a scaled down version of the home console game. That does not mean it is bad, just does not have everything its bigger brothers have. With that said THQ made sure there was a lot included. The WMG played the original Cars PSP video game and was very impressed. Cars Race O Rama PSP follows suit with a lot of new tracks. There are even boss races. Where you need to defeat a certain vehicle in order to progress.

Cars Race O Rama looks good on the Playstation Portable. Plenty of animations that makes this feel like Cars. This hand held video game includes a wide array of characters, and they act like their animated counter parts. Actually they are animated in this game too. Lightning looks good, and is very sturdy. The WMG says that because going too fast around corners leads to a collision. The vehicles handle this in a way that does not show visual damages.

Running into things will grant the player a sound byte. As does passing, and getting passed. There were times in Cars Race O Rama that the games audio was just a little off. Take for example the player gets passed, and then immediately passes right back. While passing right back, the game gave the audio sound byte from being passed. This is a minor thing in this reviewer’s opinion.

Cars Race O Rama has an okay amount of tracks, but the real beauty is finding all the wrenches and unlocking content. Getting those wrenches will mean losing some races, exploring alternate paths, and being mindful of them. Cars Race O Rama contains multiplayer modes that are sure to please families with more than one PSP (editor: or if you have a friend with one), and game discs.

The controls in Cars Race O Rama work masterfully. Steering via the directional pad works, although there can be issues with the down (since it controls the camera) button. The analog stick can be used for steering, but that depends on your style. The WMG had problems with that steering method.

Cars Race O Rama is a fun game that is safe for the entire family. Parents can purchase this game with the knowledge their kids will not find anything offensive in it. The WMG is happy that THQ published this sequel.
