Cake Mania 3

Cake Mania started out as an internet sensation that has made a splash on the hand helds. The third iteration of this series is now on the Nintendo DS. Cake Mania 3 is here thanks to our friends over at Majesco Entertainment. Jill Evans is preparing for her wedding when this temporal orb shatters. Her family and friends pick up the pieces only to vanish. They are scattered all across time. Jill must go back in time to save them. She does this by cooking for citizens of various eras.

The images in Cake Mania 3 are very similar to the ones in the previous games. Different kitchens are available, as well as various decorations for the cakes. Characters come to the counter make an order, and it is the players responsibility to bake the cake. After that we would decorate the cake, and then deliver it to the customer. The majority of the colors come from the cake decorations. I did find a lot of the visuals in Cake Mania 3 to be on the small side. This Nintendo DS game has some strange characters from different time periods.

Cake Mania 3 has good music that I enjoyed listening to. I really liked the cash sound when I would pick up the customers payment. The storyline is actually interesting, and engaging. The story gives Cake Mania 3 a reason to go across various time eras, so it ties things together. I found the message of saving friends/family through hard work is a good one.

Cake Mania 3 contains 84 different levels which will keep most gamers busy for a month or more. There are a lot of upgrades to the shop that can be purchased. These range from a television set, to a Hot Drink Machine. Only one player can play Cake Mania 3 at a time. There are no multiplayer modes. I would have liked to see some personally.

The main game play aspect of Cake Mania 3 is to touch where you want to go next. Stringing these together makes the player more efficient. Eventually the player is trying to juggle multiple things at once. There are three mini games (Servo-Rama, Cakey-Makey and Match Cakes) that are a little different. I had fun with Cake Mania 3, but I can see where others may not enjoy this kind of a game. The controls in this DS game function wonderfully.

Cake Mania 3 teaches all of us to work hard towards the goals we have before us. It also teaches us that there is we only work for so long each day. I think it is wonderful to see these franchise has made it to a third release on the Nintendo DS. Cake Mania 3 is a worthy sequel that fans of the franchise will love. If you have never tried this series before, the third one is a fantastic place to start. I will be recommending this game to pastors, and friends I know.
