Build-N Race

Most racing games that include track editors either are too heavy on the racing, or too heavy on the track editing. A blunt way of putting it is - either the racing is no fun, or the track editor does not work well. Build’n Race has great balance. The racing action is fun, and the track editor is easy to use. There are also enough options in creating ones own race track that it will keep hardcore gamers busy for months. If you want it done for you, there are eighty race tracks set in four diverse game environments.

The size of the cars is the first thing I noticed when I started playing Build’n Race. These cars are huge, and they have a lot of shine on them. Different environments reflect different color schemes. Some of them are a little bland, and others are alive with color. The realism in Build’n Race is something I was not expecting in the graphical department. Cars spark when they hit walls, and each other. Thankfully the game is very forgiving when it comes to hitting things like walls. Hit other cars, and usually you will see them leave you in the dust.

The music adds a layer of excitement to this Wii game. Build’n Race has great car engine sounds. The option screens contain a lot of variation to the audio department. Family Friendly Gaming has always been supportive of video games that put the player in control. I did not find any offensive sounds in Build’n Race.

I spent some time playing around with the editor, and racing on my own tracks. There are so many different things that can be used, that I can see myself creating tracks in Build’n Race a year from now. Four players can play one another, and there are a lot of unlockables in Build’n Race. I believe this Wii game is worth the price of admission.

I love how forgiving this game is when mistakes are made. There are a lot of options to how sensitive the controls are in case you want a greater challenge. The controls are more standard, and less Wii Remote, but it actually works great for Build’n Race. I had a lot of fun playing this game, and so did everyone else who played it with me.

Build’n Race teaches creativity, physics, and a steady hand. I like how family members can create their own tracks, and then race against one another. I would love to see a sequel to this game, and will be recommending Build’n Race to pastors I know.
