Breakfast at Tiffanys

The only thing the WMG knew about Breakfast at Tiffany's was the song by Deep Blue Something. So when the DVD movie came into Family Friendly Gaming, the WMG was interested in seeing Paramount's picture. Breakfast at Tiffany's is a film from 1961, so the WMG was expecting a safe for the entire family Not Rated film. Mark this review in your favorite folder because the WMG is admitting to being wrong - very, very, very wrong. The seedy side of New York city from the early 1960s is exposed in Breakfast at Tiffany's. Audrey Hepburn is a girl (Holly) that does things for money with men, and George Peppard is a struggling writer who is paid for services rendered by a rich married woman. These two eventually wind up falling in love even though Holly does not want to be "caged" in a real commitment. She routinely leaves men hanging, but takes that fifty dollars to go to the powder room. Breakfast at Tiffany's tries to cleverly toy with the viewer how far the characters go.

Breakfast at Tiffany's contains a lot of smoking, drinking, and other such vices. The most shocking is the scene in the strip club. Nudity is not shown, but the movie stops just shy of that. The acting is usually well done, although there are times what the actors are trying to portray leads to confusion.

The WMG went from shock to sympathy for the different characters in Breakfast at Tiffany's. Holly for example is enslaved to her cage of running away all the time. The damage she causes in countless lives (including her own) is lightly touched upon in Breakfast at Tiffany's. Her selfishness is what bothered the WMG the most. A lot of families have fallen apart due to choices characters in this movie make.

Paramount included a lot of extra content on a separate disc. The problem the WMG has is with a lot of the content - which is based on the movie. The asian gentleman represented in this movie will offend a lot of people in this day and age - especially with him being used as comic relief.

The menu screens function exactly as the WMG would expect them to in Breakfast at Tiffany's. There is a definite intelligent design to the layout of these menu's, and the usage of two discs for this centennial package. The WMG now knows about Breakfast at Tiffany's, and the Deep Blue Something song has a completely different meaning.

Breakfast at Tiffany's has the WMG re-assessing the belief that movies from the classical era were clean. Obviously not everything from the past was perfect. There is a little too much glamor shown in living those destructive lifestyles, and not enough on the problems with them (like what spending the night in jail was like). If nothing else this movie is an example of what not to do in life.
