Boom Blox Bash Party

EA (Electronic Arts) has been in the video game industry long enough to know when they have a good thing going. Boom Blox Bash Party is a sequel to the original Boom Blox, and improves upon it in almost every single way. Certain blocks need to be freed from their high perches. The player throws or slings various items (bowling ball, baseballs, etc.) at the structures. Some of the best levels involving keeping the area leveled, and only remove blocks that add to the players score. I got a real kick out of the various block characters like the cow, and chicken. Children will enjoy them as well.

Boom Blox Bash Party has a lot of great colors to it. Certain blocks will explode which can send the block characters flying through the air. This is where the cartoon violence comes into play. At first I thought destroying these structures would send the wrong message, but then I realized this Wii game is more about finding the right combination in the fewest throws possible. Visually Boom Blox Bash Party has a lot of cute mischief that winds up being humorous.

The images brought a smile to my face, and so did the sounds. The music in Boom Blox Bash Party is fresh and fun. I loved hearing the sounds from the block characters who are in each of the levels. I felt bad when I sent one flying, but chuckled when they bellowed out. The music in Boom Blox Bash Party is cheerful. I found nothing offensive in this section at all.

Boom Blox Bash Party contains over 400 levels of strategic block toppling puzzle action. The multiplayer modes included are Co-op play, competitive, and team play. EA did not stop there though. They also included a creation mode, and allow players to share them freely over WiiConnect24.

The controls in Boom Blox Bash Party are pretty intuitive. Lock on where you want to throw, and then make a throwing motion with the Wii Remote. Grabbing with the hand icon, or slinging with the slingshot are also pretty easy to learn. This Wii game has some nice physics in the destructive game play. I had fun playing Boom Blox Bash Party, but can understand those who do not appreciate the concept.

The biggest lesson I learned from this addictive Wii game is to find the weakest link. The way blocks will fall, and thus make wonderful combos required thought, and attention to detail. A few times I felt like I got lucky, and others I planned it out perfectly. I would like to see sequels to this franchise in the future.
