Bolt
SCORE: 87
Bolt is going to become a very popular movie like The Incredibles. Disney is also showing some amazing foresight putting out one package that includes Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital Copy. A television show dog thinks he has super powers, escapes the studio to find his person (Penny), and winds up shipping himself from Hollywood to New York. He meets up with a cat named Mittens, and eventually with a hamster named Rhino. Along the way he discovers he does not have super powers, but does not need them to be a hero.
The animation in Bolt is top notch. In a lot of ways this movie reminds me of The Incredibles. Sort of in reverse. There is some violence as people on motorcycles fall off, vehicles explode, and the animals hurt themselves (by doing things like falling off a moving train). They are cartoons so there is no real animal harm. This is really a small part of the film.
The drama in the script is highly evident. Bolt spends a lot of the time trapped in a delusional world that Mittens eventually frees him from. Rhino is perfect comic relief, and that hamsters runs away with the movie right after being introduced. The music is exciting, and fit the theme of Bolt nicely.
First off you are getting three different formats in one package. The Blu-ray contains the most extras and will keep most viewers busy for quite a few hours. The Super Rhino short is simply amazing. I really could not get enough of Rhino, and would love to see more of him. Behind the scenes, a music video, deleted scenes, and an art gallery are a few of the additional extras.
Bolt has an intelligent design to the menu screens, layout, and functioning. I had no problems navigating the different menus. The storyline shows that we can all be heroes if we are willing to try, along with an underlying message of living in reality. Friendships are earned in Bolt, and each character has a lot of heart.
John Travolta, and Miley Cyrus do a great job in their roles in Bolt.
I would love to see more of this universe in the form of sequels. The
ending makes me think that will most likely not be happening any
time soon. Bolt is a really fun family film that all ages can enjoy.
