Battlestar Galactica

As a kid I used to enjoy the original Battlestar Galactica television show. I have not revisited that series to see how well it would review on our scale, but that is on my to-do list. Anyways back to this version of Battlestar Galactica. Hollywood decided to re-envision the series. Family Friendly Gaming is going on record for Season 1.0. Humans way out in space created the Cylons, and these robots “evolved” as the show brainwashes the viewer with every single episode. That was of course my first issue with this sci-fi television show. Next came the humans believing in either nothing spiritually, or the lords of kobol. In essence there is a lot of Greek style mythology gods in Battlestar Galactica Season 1.0. The Cylons believe in one true God, and they are portrayed as the bad guys. Cylons are also now capable of looking just like humans, which makes for a very paranoid population.

The images of blood, and death are all over this season 1.0. The Cylons destroy the twelve colonies, and just under fifty thousand humans survive in various space ships. The fleet decides to go off on a search for the thirteen colony - Earth. Space ships get blown up, and there are physical fights as well. Sex outside of marriage is shown as a perfectly normal behavior by various characters. Commitments are however not put in such a shiny light.

I was very dismayed at the intense and many times adult language in Battlestar Galactica Season 1.0. Plenty of profanities are all over this DVD, and this lack of control teaches viewers it is okay to vent your anger all over other people. The portrayal of God is troubling as well. The music in Battlestar Galactica Season 1.0 has a very tribal feel to it.

There are some extras on these discs, but some of them contain offensive content as well. I found myself not very interested in the extras for various reasons. The show is intense, and many of the extras take away from it in my opinion.

Battlestar Galactica Season 1.0 functions normally in all the menu screens. I did run into a few irritations by having to go through so many screens just to get to the episodes. Maybe that is just me, but other television shows seem to be more streamlined in my experiences.

How could they make Starbuck a woman? Hollywood wants a female president, and that is fine to do in this show, but Starbuck. This completely ruins this show for me. The constant moral, and ethical issues are rarely handled properly by this show, and that is also very troubling. I wanted to like Battlestar Galactica Season 1.0, but its many moral issues draw it down.
