Band Hero

The Nintendo DS version of Band Hero improves upon the Guitar Hero franchise on this little hand held. Players can play the guitar, sing, or play the drums. This puts the Nintendo DS in different configurations. Up to four players can connect and play this game with one another. The catch is each player must have a copy of Band Hero on the DS. If you have the Wii version of Band Hero, there is also connectivity. Band Hero contains thirty songs from various eras. The track list is not as extensive on the hand held as the consoles, but that is to be expected.

I was not impressed with much of the dark graphics in Band Hero. I was less impressed to start my character and only have enough money to purchase a shirt. That means she went out in her underwear from the waist down. There are various attire choices, after you perform well enough to earn some dough. Characters get into the music they are playing, and have various animations. I was not impressed with certain body movements, even if they are realistic ones rock stars do.

I had heard some of the songs in Band Hero, and none were to my personal liking. There are definitely lyrical issues with many of the songs in Band Hero on the Nintendo DS. I am puzzled at how there are so many safe songs in the Wii version of this game, but a lot less so on the DS. I would think there are more kids using the DS than the Wii.

Being able to download fan requests from the Wii version, as well as allowing multiple players helps Band Hero. The various unlockables, and adjustable content also boosts the score. The only problem is many of the unlockable songs contains content that will bother many families. I would not let my grand kids hear many of these songs.

I am torn in terms of gameplay of Band Hero on the DS. The drum, and microphone both work great. The guitar is from Guitar Hero On Tour, and it still has issues. Single card download play would have helped Band Hero a lot in my book. The box contains two instruments of play, so using one game cartridge to do a song would have been really cool. Even on the easy settings, Band Hero can be a difficult game. Expect this game to challenge you.

I like the direction Activision is taking with Band Hero for the most part. The songs did not thrill me, and the attire was my second problem. While I was playing Band Hero I did not pay as much attention to the band members as I did to what I was doing. I would like to see a sequel to this game, especially if something new is done with the guitar connection.
