Astro Boy The Video Game

Astro Boy is a well known franchise that Family Friendly Gaming has been aware of for many years. This Wii (editor: and PS2) game from D3 Publisher follows the movie that was also recently released. Astro Boy The Video Game is part shooter, and part side scrolling beat them up. There is also an arena fighting game included.

The very first thing I noticed about Astro Boy The Video Game is the graphics. This game looks fantastic. The reflection off of certain surfaces, and the backgrounds are amazing. I have seen few Wii games that look this great. With that said the majority of the graphics are devoted to shooting, punching, and kicking. Astro Boy has a few special moves. One of them is a machine gun that shoots out of his behind. This goes in every single direction, and is a light attack on enemies all over the screen.

Astro Boy The Video Game has some very heart wrenching moments. I have not seen the movie yet, and do not have a PhD in this franchise. The son of a scientist gets killed thanks to upper managements utter incompetence. A robot is built, and his sons memories are put into it. The robot thinks he is a boy, and his father completely rejects him. Astro Boy becomes the savior of the city. I noticed some mild name calling in Astro Boy The Video Game, so the E10+ rating is earned.

D3 Publisher made sure a lot of content was included in Astro Boy The Video Game. There are multiple game play modes, and various unlockables. In fact unlocking cheats that can then be used in the game is an older concept, but one I enjoyed. Two players can play Astro Boy The Video Game at the same time. Fans of the movie, or of Astro Boy will take an interest in purchasing Astro Boy The Video Game.

The controls in Astro Boy The Video Game are pretty standard. I ran into no control issues. The whole jumping and then flying took a few tries to learn. I found that I relied on the special moves a lot in Astro Boy The Video Game. The storyline follows the movie (from the research I did). It is an interesting one that I wound up enjoying. Levels are interesting to traverse through, and I noticed a definite pattern in them. The fighting action got old pretty quick. Thankfully it was broken up with the flying levels. Astro Boy The Video Game starts really easy, but the difficulty level increases along the way.

Astro Boy The Video Game follows the model of good versus evil. The hero does not originally know what all he is capable of, and learns along the journey with the player. This Wii game is an interesting addition to the library that focuses on the violence.
