101 in 1 Party Megamix
SCORE: 75
Innovative ideas that are introduced on the Nintendo DS make it on to the Wii many times. The reason is pretty simple - a lot of DS games translate well into Wii versions. I was pretty excited to hear about 101 in 1 making it to the Wii. The DS game was really cool. 101 in 1 Party Megamix does not disappoint in most regions. I also realized that I could not spend the entire review comparing it to the DS version. This game has to stand up against other mini game compilations on the Wii. Yes it has roots in the hand held, but I am looking at the tree. Does this tree bare fruit?
101 in 1 Party Megamix has a lot of bright and colorful graphics. There is also a fair amount of cartoon mischief, and some cartoon violence. There are a lot of different things to do in mini games. With one hundred and one of them, there better be. The cavemen characters were interesting. 101 in 1 Party Megamix has a lot of different characters the player will interact with and/or play. There are plenty of animations devoted to humor in this Wii game. Not all produced a laugh, but it is nice to see a developer making the attempt.
101 in 1 Party Megamix has some neat little music. I enjoyed the jamming on the main screens. The mini games also have friendly special effect sounds. I had a good time listening to the sound track of this Wii game. Written directions (editor: with pictures) appear before each of the mini games. Most of simple enough to control, but directions are always welcome here at Family Friendly Gaming.
How are the extras? Well there are 101 mini games. That alone will keep you busy for a few weeks. 101 in 1 Party Megamix has the player beat mini games, and they unlock more. So lets say a month or two later you have beaten all of them. What now? Well up to four friends and/or family members can play 101 in 1 Party Megamix. This is the beauty of this title. The hang out time may go all night with 101 mini games. I also believe everyone should find a game or two they are really into. I did not find as many mini games in the Wii version that I wanted to keep playing.
I found the overwhelming majority of mini games in 101 in 1 Party Megamix to be very easy to play. A few did not make much sense, or took me awhile to figure out. What bothers me about 101 in 1 Party Megamix is the loading times. The time to takes to load the menu screens, mini games, and everything slowed me down. To me that hurts 101 in 1 Party Megamix. Gamers should be able to get into a mini game, and just go. The pace got hurt by all these loading screens. When I did make it to the games I had fun. Others I played with also enjoyed 101 in 1 Party Megamix for the Wii.
Families can spend time
together playing 101 in 1 Party Megamix. The cartoon violence can turn
off families though. I wish 101 in 1 Party Megamix had been kept as safe
for the family as the Nintendo DS game was. Less loading would be needed
for any sequel. Still worth checking out.
