Wild Earth African Safari

Wild Earth African Safari is one of the most interesting video games to appear on the Wii. Majesco Entertainment made sure families could experience this magazine creating video game. The player must get a certain amount of pictures of different animals, plants, etc. for articles that appear in a fictional magazine. This is all done in Africa, and the zoom lens becomes the players friend. Get to close to the animals for too long and it is game over. Running around is not the only mode of transportation as a helicopter ride, and driving a jeep are also present.

The most impressive thing about Wild Earth African Safari is the size of the levels. There may not be a lot of different things around in the levels but still they are really big. The animals look realistic, including crocodiles. This game is very friendly to the player because I doubt lions would let me get that close in real life. There are plenty of really beautiful areas to see in Wild Earth African Safari.

The verbal instructions are backed up with written ones in case the player was not paying attention. Wild Earth African Safari gives a lot of education about Africa, and the different animals. There was an occasional reference to evolution, although I did not find any references to intelligent design or God.

There are eleven different missions to go on, and successful completion unlocks a fun little mini game. There are main objectives and additional ones to find in each of the level. It can be difficult to find the additional objectives in Wild Earth African Safari.

The controls take a few minutes to get used to. One warning - do not move around a lot when in zoom mode. The controls get really touchy. The Nunchuk controller is used to move around, and the Wii Remote is used to look around. This works well, as does the little hint to tell the player which direction to go next to see the next event. I had fun playing Wild Earth African Safari, and enjoyed learning about the animals in Africa.

The ESRB sure let loose with the descriptors. Predators will hunt prey, and eat their kills. The level of violence the player witness (editor: and has no participation in) is mild especially if you have seen documentaries of what these animals do in the wild. With that said it is important for you to know Wild Earth African Safari is semi-realistic in how animals act. Sequels would be fantastic.
