Wall-E Wall-E

The Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions of Wall-E are very similar, so I put them together in one review. The Xbox 360 version has additional achievements, and the Playstation 3 seems to have slight better graphics and quicker controls. This poor little robot got left on earth to clean up our mess. He decides instead to fall in love, and go on an adventure. He did work for 700 straight years, with no union to back him up. THQ has a decent track record with movie based video games. The Cars video game adaptation is still in quite a few of the Family Friendly Gaming top ten lists. Is Wall-E more like Cars or Ratatouille? Quite honestly it is between the two. There is a fair amount of good things, and an occasional bad.

The graphics in Wall-E for the Xbox 360 and PS3 shows some very nice polish. Like I mentioned in the Wii review, it starts out pretty dirty, dusty, and dingy. Once the player gets off earth, it really improves. There is violence as Eve shoots a laser beam that is destructive. Wall-E can also destroy areas of trash in order to find collectible items.

The songs in Wall-E sound very old to me. There is something truly classic about such traditional songs. I suppose it is too much to hope for an old gospel hymn, but maybe in a sequel. The robots make a lot of funny sounds that children of all ages will enjoy (adults as well). Wall-E reminds me of Johnny Five in the Short Circuit movies.

If you are interested in collecting all of the unlockables, and/or achievements then there is a lot of replay in Wall-E. Most of the levels are very linear, but enough new skills comes along to keep most interested. Of the two versions I would say the Xbox 360 is slightly better in this section. If you liked the movie, then you really will appreciate the video game.

Wall-E controls nicely, with the exception of the flying levels. The up and down mechanics confused me for some reason. I ran into a few areas where I had trouble figuring out how to solve the section. Eventually I did figure it out, but bear in mind you may get stuck occasionally. I had fun playing Wall-E, and really liked the unlockable content.

I love to see ‘G’ rated movies do so well at the box office. My guess is the DVD’s will do even better. THQ has done a good job of supplying good, generally clean video games based on the Disney Pixar film. I hope that these Wall-E video games do as well as the Cars video games. Any sequel should have a lot more exploration of the areas. Both of my children think these games are really cool.
