Wall-E

Some people may wonder why THQ would release Wall-E on the Sony Playstation 2. The simple answer is there are over one hundred million units sold world wide, and some months the PS2 sells almost as much as the PS3. The PS2 version is drastically different from the PS3 version. The Playstation 2 game has much more in common with the Playstation Portable (PSP) version. The creative skill to come up with a robot based movie with all of these emotions in astounding. The negative images of the future are way too common place coming out of the film industry in this era. Some diversity from the film industry in this regard would be welcomed with open arms.

Wall-E looks good on the Playstation 2. I loved the levels set in space. It gave me the feel of flying. Wall-E has a laser and uses it to shoot things like boxes, obstacles, etc. Wall-E has a power gauge so he must get specific items to recharge it in order to fire more laser shots. Unless you go gung-ho on firing the laser you should be fine though.

The sounds are taken from the movie, and add to the overall character of this game. Emotion is expressed in the robotic voices quite well. I do have one quibble in this department - all of the sounds while flying in space. My understanding is it would be pretty silent while flying through space on the outside of a ship. Like I said, a quibble.

THQ made sure a ton of items are hidden throughout Wall-E. Many of these are common place items in today’s society. Going into first person mode reveals them. If the mentioned in the next paragraph does not bother you, then this is a PS2 video game worth your money.

Wall-E is an action adventure platformer with one flaw. The player must collect enough of certain items to open doors out of most levels. The problem is there are never any extra items, which means the player must always complete each section totally before progressing. Different skills are required, and some of them are tough (especially later in the game). To be fair Wall-E does include its fair share of chase levels. I had fun playing this Playstation 2 video game.

The social issues presented in Wall-E are from the political left’s viewpoint. The game diminishes them slight, but it is part of the subject matter. The lack of diversity of thought is frightening, and the use of entertainment to “educate” children is even more alarming. Wall-E is a good cute little movie with an extremely one sided ideology.
