Virtua Tennis World Tour

Arcade style tennis action is there in force on the Playstation Portable. Virtua Tennis World Tour from Sega certainly has a step right up, and start winning approach to it. For those that expect a simulation then they will be disappointed. However those looking for a good, clean and fun tennis game that will not immediately humble them can pick up Virtua Tennis World Tour. Families get an added bonus as this game received an ‘E’ for Everyone Rating with absolutely no descriptors.

The illustrations and animations of Virtua Tennis World Tour are okay. The character models are not at the level of Smash Court Tennis 3, but they are not horrible either. There are some nice, bright colors used throughout the game. There is absolutely no violence that the WMG could find while playing this game (unless you count a tennis racket hitting a tennis ball). The men and women dress as they do on the tennis courts, however there is no enticement to lust issues in how they are handled. Hitting the ball against a colored wall mini game reminds the WMG of Tetris.

The sounds are done nicely in Virtua Tennis World Tour. The WMG did not hear any offensive sounds while playing. The music is pleasant, and fits the game of tennis quite well. The voices work well, and add some depth to this arcade styled sports game.

There are plenty of modes, and ways to play Virtua Tennis World Tour. Most of the mini games have a dual purpose. The first thing they do is to add some fun, and spice to the game. The second thing they do is teach the fundamentals of how the game is played. Like Smash Court Tennis 3 Wi-Fi compatibility is included. This feature really allows you the player to play anyone from all over the world (within the 22 million PSP owners) that has this game. If you are into arcade styled tennis action then Virtua Tennis World Tour will be worth your hard earned dollars.

The one problem the WMG has with Virtua Tennis World Tour is the learning curve. Since the game starts out so easy, the player has no incentive to develop the skills necessary to win against some of the most difficult opponents. When playing the computer the WMG hit a wall. The WMG went from not allowing the computer to score a point, to not being able to score against the next computer opponent. The controls handle quite well, and the courts have an intelligent design to them.

Sega has made a nice little game here with Virtua Tennis World Tour. The WMG could not find anything wrong with it morally, or ethically. Angles, and concentration are the main lessons found within this game. This game is safe for the entire family, and was a joy to play.
